Rubbish removal across SE QLD.

Rubbish removal and skip bin hire solve the same problem two different ways, and picking the wrong one is what makes the job expensive.

A skip bin is hired. It gets dropped in your driveway, you fill it over a few days, and it gets collected. You supply the labour. Rubbish removal is the opposite: a crew arrives, carries it out, loads it and takes it away, usually inside an hour. The bin is cheaper on paper and worse the moment the job involves stairs, a heavy lounge, a deceased estate, or anything you physically cannot lift. Plenty of SE QLD operators run both, so ask for both prices before you decide.

Pricing is not regulated and it is not hourly. Almost every operator charges by the volume that goes on the truck, in fractions of a load, with a minimum charge for a single item. The number you get over the phone is an estimate until someone sees the pile, so send photos. Two things move the price more than volume does: access, meaning a walk-up unit, a narrow side path or a locked car park, and sorting, because a clean load of green waste or clean fill goes to a cheaper gate than a mixed load.

Before you pay anyone, check what your council already collects. Brisbane City Council runs an annual kerbside large item collection for residents on a per-area calendar, and other SE QLD councils run their own kerbside services and tip voucher schemes. If it is household junk and your collection is three weeks away, waiting is free. If it is builders waste, a bathroom strip-out, or you settle on the property Friday, waiting is not an option and a crew is.

Asbestos is the one thing worth raising before you book, because a general rubbish crew is not licensed for it. In Queensland, removing any amount of friable asbestos requires a class A licence, and removing more than ten square metres of non-friable asbestos requires a class B licence. Ten square metres or less of non-friable material can be removed without a licence, but it still has to be done with safe procedures and taken to a site that accepts it. If the pile includes old fibro sheeting, eaves or fence panels off a pre-1990 house, say so when you call, not when the truck arrives.

Other items most operators will not take on a standard load, or will charge separately for: paint and chemicals, gas bottles, tyres, car batteries, and fridges or air conditioners that still hold gas. E-waste is usually accepted but often carries its own gate fee.

Ask for the quote by volume in writing, confirm tipping fees are inside it, and confirm the operator carries public liability if the work happens inside your house.
